$6.95 Brunch Sunday, Feb 3 @ 1:33 p.m. @ Portfolio!

That's right, collect those pennies, because brunch this week is only $6.95 - the deal is so good I might just eat twice! That is if the food is any good. The place looked pretty empty when we walked by last week. But hey -- that means they've got seating! As always, give me an RSVP y'all!

See you there or be square (or any other jagged edge shape of your choosing -- I personally will be obtuse. That's a shape, right?)

Yes … you aren’t dreaming. I’ve decided to relieve Tim of his duties this week by picking the brunch place. It’s a cute little country-style cafe that Robert and I used to go to when we lived in Murry Hill. It’s good and cheap. There might be a wait though, but I’ll try and call to see if I can make a reservation (unlikely). Check out their website for their fare.

You know the drill guys … RSVP!

Brunch Weekend Getaway - "The Know", read before brunch

* When: Friday, February 8th - Sunday, February 10th

* Where: Mount Kisco
  • Photos & Info: http://www.homeaway.com/USA/New-York/vacation-house-Mt-Kisco/p159591.htm
  • Map: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll=41.357323,-73.578701&spn=0.009728,0.019569&z=15&om=0&msid=116194695199532921628.00044392eb5cc8e85e27e
* Cost:
  • $99 (to Tim)
  • + $21.00 Round Trip Metro North Train Ticket (can be cheaper if you travel off-peak)
  • = $120 / person
  • Food NOT included

* Transportation:
  • On Friday, at your leisure, take the Metro North to the Golden's Bridge stop (1.5 hour approx. ride).
  • Then Tim will pick you up with a rental car, and shuttle you to the house, approx 10 minutes away.
  • On Sunday, you will be shuttled at your leisure to the Golden's Bridge stop for your return ride home.
Food:
  • There is a very nice restaurant nearby, but I think -- since we have full a kitchen -- we should enjoy cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Share and save!
  • As cost is an issue, Tim will gladly buy extra groceries to share -- anyone else?
What to do:
  • Enjoy the beautiful countside
  • Sled riding / ice skating (weather permitting)
  • Walk to the general store & "121" restaurant
  • Cook
  • Sit by the log fire and drink coffee (or tea) (logs for the fire are provided)
  • Watch DVD's
  • Read that book you've been wanting to read
  • Play board games and card games
  • Play video games (if someone brings a Wii or Playstation)
  • Hunt for snipe (to be documented on youtube)
  • If you get really bored, Tim can shuttle a small group into town for shopping
  • And remember, God entertains those who entertain themselves.

The anal cost breakdown:
  • If 7 people attend @ $99/person, the budget is $693
  • The cabin costs exactly $623 when you include tax and the cleaning fee.
  • The rental car rental is $60 (when rented nearby in Connecticut)
  • That leaves $693-($623+$60)=$10 left for Gas and Tim's cab far from the rental spot to the train. In other words, Tim will lose a little bit of money, but he can deal.
  • So, 7 people is the MINIMUM. 8 people would leave a little extra for a food budget. If we get 9 people, we will be a little cozy, but we will eat well.

Sunday, January 6, 1:01 pm @ Sunburst Espresso Bar

Brunch, Sunday, January 6, 2008 baby!!!

1:01 p.m. @
Sunburst Espresso Bar

Neighborhood: Manhattan/Gramercy-Flatiron
206 3rd Ave
(between 18th St & 19th St)
New York, NY 10003
(212) 674-1702

Okay, I'm taking a total gamble with this one. I picked it knowing nothing about the decor or ambiance, only that it is cheap, cheap, cheap -- Google the place and you shall see. And really, the main thing for the start of a new year is to watch our wallets, isn't it?

And, okay, if it's really crappy, we'll stumble around and find something else.

So come one, come all, and don't forget to email me back so I know who's coming.

-Tim

(P.S. They've got free wifi too, for those of with iphones and other gadgetry!!!)
